Build Your Creative Goals

Do you set resolutions or goals at the beginnings of new years? I've heard arguments for both sides. Personally, my existence is structured by lists. My car/room/purse are covered in folded scraps of paper with ideas and to-dos. There's something satisfying about writing things down and then physically checking them off. Poof. Done.

From experience, I've also found that it's important to mentally check in with yourself and where you're at. When I'm restless or bored or irritated, it helps to refocus on what goals I'm passionate about. Laziness can be an extreme mood/inspiration killer, and I'm setting a new challenge for myself to battle the hell out of it.

How to Travel Via Carry-On

On Thursday I'll be air-bound and on my way to Utah to visit one of my best friends/pseudo-sisters who just got married. Let it be known that I COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED.She also has an adorable little daughter (a.k.a. muffin) that I've been sewing up a storm for. (I've been throwing around the idea of creating a tutorial/DIY post for the mini sundresses. If you would be interested in reading something like that, leave a comment!)

But before I can get swept up in the excitement of going on some big jet planes, first things first.

Sticky Fingers from Rolling Scones

Emily and I were having coffee and a delicious raspberry scone from GR Bagel just last week when we realized that there's absolutely nothing stopping us from having tasty scones in our lives every single day. I immediately flipped open my planner and penned in SCONE DAY! for an otherwise uneventful Wednesday afternoon.

Now I'm writing while munching on a homemade strawberry lemon poppy seed scone, and I'm so happy we made the decision to try on our baker's hats! I'm guilty of being pretty lazy when it comes to kitchen time, and putting more effort into creating deliciousness for my daily fuel is something I've been working on lately.

We wanted to share this split recipe with you and we hope it will inspire you to make your own scrumptious scones- or just to spend an extra few minutes putting some love into your meal preparation!

Fall Fashion '15: The Staples

The weather here in Michigan has begun to cool off which means that I've officially started to transition out of the ol' summer closet. I'll always have a love affair with sundresses (alldayeveryday) during the sunshine months, but fall fashion just gets me in ways that no other season will. I love sweaters and tights and being layered. Fall is crisp and spicy, like my favorite apple-cinnamon candles.

I've always been really into thrifting for my wardrobe. Obviously it's way cheaper than buying clothes new from department stores, but it's also thrilling to stumble across cool pieces. Like new age treasure hunting. Plus, a lot of thrift stores donate proceeds to local community projects or charities which is all sorts of awesome.

After putzing around on Pinterest, I put together a reasonable list of staples that I wanted for my closet this season with a goal of spending no more than fifty dollars. Here's an account of what I found.

5 Creative Things You Could Be Doing Right Now

It's easy to get in a slump.

You find yourself scrolling through some social media, deadpan and overwhelmingly bored by posts you really couldn't care less about. It's habitual and, if you'll admit it, super unhealthy. However, habits don't always have to be something negative. Consciously spending your time doing creative things boosts quality of life. It's a simple concept. Unfortunately, getting the motivation to make that a part of your routine isn't nearly as simple.

But don't fret. We've been there and we've been square.

Holla', Holla', Holland

Sunday was the last, last-summer-day before my final semester as an undergrad. The weather had been very “Michigan” all day (a.k.a. the opposite of what season it should be) and a grey haze clung to the sky and air. I’ve been belatedly hoping for warmer weather as Fall inches closer, but I also love dreary mitten days.

It was late in the afternoon when I decided that there really wasn’t a good enough reason not to be spending the last hours of summer on a beach.

Pluto Party!

Interstellar gossip time! Regardless of whether you were on Team Planet Pluto or Team Planetoid Pluto, it's time to give the icy enigma some credit as she returns to the spotlight with NASA's "New Horizons" mission's closest approach today.

Almost 10 years after mission launch, scientists are finally cashing in on bets concerning the dwarf planet's size and relationship with her moons. We're just happy to see some recognition for the lonely space rock that wears her heart on her sleeve.
